Chrome Polish for Motorcycle Care
When it comes to a motorcycle, the glow of highly polished chrome is enough to make any biker feel proud, and will gain attention wherever it goes. Keeping that shine is the difficult part! But the reward will be worth it.
Riders love chrome, everyone loves chrome! It does look great, and the general feeling is "the more the better", until it comes to cleaning it that is. But chrome isn't just about being pretty! It's one of the most highly polished metals on a motorcycle, but it is also functional and tarnish resistant. The downside is, it can still rust! Decorative chrome plating, as most found on a motorcycle or car, is actually chrome plating, electroplating. In basic terms, chrome plating is a thin layer of chromium, fused onto a metal surface. Not only is it decorative, it protects the metal from corrosion and makes it stronger. Different techniques are used, depending on the metal surface it is being fused onto. Hard chrome, also known as industrial or engineered, is much, much, tougher. Much more resistant to wear and tear, when compared to the decorative chrome. The thickness of hard chromium plating would depend on the application requirements. Mostly, the part would be steel based, plated with copper, then nickel, and finally, the chromium plating applied. This makes the chrome more resistant, dealing with temperature changes and whether conditions.
Nothing worse than all that brilliant chrome deteriorating, becoming pitted and oxidised. If you don't treat surface oxidation, it will allow rust to develop. Polishing will avoid corrosion problems. It removes harmful oxidation, but also buffs out any fine scratches, or blemishes. Marks can also promote the onslaught of rust. If the chrome of your motorcycle has a problem with oxidation, there are chrome cleaners which can be used, before treating the surfaces with chrome polish. Chrome restorers are available too. The importance of selecting the right products can not be stressed enough. Which chrome polish for motorcycle care you choose, should leave your chrome surfaces shining and protected. Why settle for anything less?
